BARBARA KITALLIDES
ELYSIUM
2- 17 FEBRUARY 2024
Creating a refined sense of chaos within her canvases, Barbara Kitallides exhibits the ultimate blend of colour and fluidity within her works. Greek native, Kitallides describes her practice as “an emotive, intellectual, and philosophical investigation of life and place in the modern world. Exploring her inner consciousness and how it interacts with her external surroundings.” Kitallides repeatedly explores the ideologies surrounding the human condition and the societal and personal dimensions of our value system.
The exceptional level of liquidity Kitallides creates within her work is what sets her apart from other Abstract Australian artists. The way in which she utilises this alongside contrasting colours within each elongated brush stroke, give such a strong sense of form, thus creating the illusion that she has painted a three dimensional object. This, being hard to achieve in such an abstract manner without painting a literal form.
Kitallides creates a visual struggle between Anarchy and command as a means “to find balance within the chaos of these two spaces and discover what results.”
In Barbara Kitallides' abstract masterpieces, the interplay of colour and fluidity transcends conventional boundaries, offering viewers a mesmerising journey through the intricate dance of chaos and command, ultimately inviting contemplation on the delicate equilibrium within the realms of life and art.
