ABSTRACTION

GROUP EXHIBITION

9 - 24 August 2024

Join us for opening night drinks Friday 9th August from 6pm - 8pm

Abstract art, which began emerging in the early 20th century, is characterised by its departure from realistic representation, instead focusing on the use of shapes, colours, and forms to achieve its effect. Defined as to “separate or withdraw something from something else” Abstraction within art attempts to create the same emotional response whilst completely abandoning anything physical or identifiable.

As well as being able to present their interpretation of the work, this interpretation of visual language allows its audience to experience their works without any persuasion or influence caused by identifiable forms against their own thoughts, feelings and experiences. This can often evoke a different response to the artist's intentions, it is a style of art that truly emphasises the purely subjective nature of art.

Compendium Gallery is proud to display this collective of both emerging and established artists, who have taken the traditional notions and ideologies of Abstract art and created works for their modern day audience. By challenging the boundaries of form and representation, these artists invite viewers to explore new dimensions of perception and emotion, fostering a deeper connection with the art that transcends conventional understanding
