BRENT ROSENBERG
Figures of Something
6th March - 29th March 2025
Opening Thursday 6th March 2025
We are thrilled to be exhibiting Brent Rosenberg this March for his second solo exhibition at Compendium Gallery. Figures of Something presents seven large-scale portraits that unearth the intangible — figures that exist beneath the surface, woven from memory, emotion, and the quiet weight of human experience.
Through a delicate interplay of mixed media collage and ethereal layers of tulle, these portraits transcend mere representation, becoming spectres of identity, shifting between presence and absence. Fragmented yet whole, obscured yet revealed, each composition meditates on the ephemeral nature of selfhood, exploring the tension between the seen and the unseen, the physical and the felt.
Born in 1987, Brent is an Australian contemporary artist based in Melbourne. His artistic journey is deeply influenced by his formative years in Johannesburg, South Africa, where his family lived before settling in Melbourne. These experiences and memories often inform the themes and elements in his work, particularly his striking use of portraiture.
Brent’s art is defined by his innovative use of shape, texture, and mixed media. His works embody themes of growth and transformation, always evolving as he delves deeper into his creative instincts and pushes beyond conventional boundaries. Influenced by art, fashion, and music, Brent’s approach remains contemporary, blending his passions into thoughtful compositions.
His commitment to form and composition results in artworks that feel purposeful, natural, and deeply engaging. Brent invites viewers to explore his creativity and imagination through layers of texture and abstraction.
Brent’s talent has garnered attention from both national and international audiences. He has collaborated with high-profile celebrities to create bespoke pieces for their collections, and his works are held in private and commercial collections across the United States, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
