JACQUELINE JACOBI
13th - 28th February 2025
Opening Thursday 13th February 6-8
My artworks are my vision and my emotion: the interplay between order and organic flow.
The exhibits use fused glass to express themes of balance, transformation and
interconnectedness. My work reflects the structural harmony in colour, pattern, texture and form exploring tension and harmony between control and creative freedom. I bring my formal background in Graphic Design, enriched by my experience in the fluidity of painted colour and the multi-dimension of the sculptured form. Philosophically I appreciate that glass is recyclable, there is no harm to the environment. These works explore nature and the urban environment as well as utilitarian objects and later abstract art. In glass, there is a vulnerability and at the same time, there is strength, much like human nature. My process begins with a vision and a rough coloured sketch. I use layers of cut glass much like in digital design, to build depth and visual rhythm. Each layer is arranged to create a vibrant sculptural form, where I think of glass as my canvas and light as my medium. Cutting each shape of tiny pieces of glass and placing them to form a pattern explores the interplay in colour, size and shape.
By kiln-firing these layered compositions, I transform my design into a unified, tangible artwork. Light is as an essential element illuminating the design and colour to create a dynamic, interactive dimension. Humorously there is always an unpredictability in glass as it fuses, flows and reacts in the kiln which challenges my quest for perfection whilst facilitating fine-tuning the final art form
